📚 Joyce and Court Oldmeadow
Joyce and Court Oldmeadow bought Dromkeen at Riddells Creek in 1973, using the homestead as their home and a storage centre for an educational bookshop. Their interest in children’s books soon developed into a collection of original illustrations and manuscripts. After Court’s death in 1977, Joyce continued the work and established the Dromkeen Medal in 1982. The collection later passed to State Library Victoria, including thousands of illustrations and evidence of how picture books were made. Their legacy preserves the discarded sketches and working stages behind polished pages, giving children’s literature a home large enough to take its artistry seriously.
